🔗 Share this article Apex Legends' Niche Traversal Techniques Are Going Mainstream This Season The game developers has a special treat prepared for Apex Legends gamers, arriving just in time for festive season. Enthusiasts of this game's super-slick movement will be pleased to learn that an innovative traversal feature will be introduced when the Amped season launches on November 4th. Introducing Mantle Boosting Named "Momentum Boosting" by Respawn, this feature provides gamers a surge of forward momentum when scaling ledges and walls. As explained key developer the design lead, this technique was previously existed of the game for some time, often called as "mantle jumping." But it's challenging for casual gamers, and typically employed by pro gamers in competitive play or esports competitions. In this update, the team is making it easier for players of all skill levels to successfully perform these tricky speed-boosts. "This technique existed in the game for a while, but executing it requires skill to pull off and gamers might not realize it's possible without external guides," the designer states. "We're adding a visual cue so users can easily see when and how to activate the high-octane movement ability, making accessible the mechanic and adding new ways to compete for a much wider base." Why Make It Accessible Why make a previously obscure movement quirk accessible to all players? Lead Legend designer the development lead says the team aims for gamers to experience empowerment — including ones who are inexperienced. "Our community is doing other crazy stuff like super-gliding and tap-strafing, and we examined at our competition, looked at what our players execute, and we wondered, 'What if we extend these capabilities to more players?'" the designer explains. "Since currently, some of these techniques are kind of janky to use — it requires to change controls and hit precise timings. So we said, 'How about we create a polished implementation?'" The Amped Update Movement Focus Movement is largely the central theme in Season 27, with Legends Horizon, Rampart, and Valkyrie all getting enhancements to maintain them in motion. The cooldown period on her tactical ability is shorter, and the Gravity Lift will boost players into the air much quicker than it used to. Her defensive walls now include overhead protection and capability to grant speed boosts to those nearby. However the spotlight is on the high-flying Valkyrie receiving the most attention now, with multiple tweaks implemented to make her stronger, quicker, and more lethal. "In my opinion there's quite a consensus that her moment is here," states Legend designer Ian Holstead. "There's no doubt she was top-tier previously, but due to the addition of other characters, mobility perks, and redeployment tools, it seemed like she's not very relevant in today's the game. It was a really great opportunity for us to revisit multiple elements [of her kit] and sort of restore her to former prominence." Valkyrie's Upgrades To reclaim her competitive status in current strategies, Holstead notes Respawn assessed each of her abilities and implemented some powerful modifications. Her jetpack have been upgraded, boosting velocity while airborne, and this equipment now recharge much quicker, allowing the player to remain longer aloft. She can no longer take damage from her own Missile Swarm, which was enhanced to tag enemies who take damage from it. Her Skyward Dive skill — which launches teammates skyward for redeployment or escape — now takes much less time to activate. She's also getting some new perk choices that players can select to conserve resources, expand the spread of her Missile Swarm, or accelerate her Skyward Dive takeoff time. "Valkyrie's equipment fulfills the pilot experience," he comments. Olympus Improvements Additionally, the only floating arena, Olympus, is getting a movement-friendly facelift, with an extensive redesign that opens up choke points and renders securing elevated positions a bit less daunting. The developers says Apex Legends this update focuses on giving players the tools required to compete in matches. "Really, we were looking at the game's core identity as a movement shooter," says lead Legend designer Josh Mohan. Apex Legends the Amped season launches Nov. 4 at 10 a.m. PST/1 p.m. EST.
